Picker Spotlights are an opportunity to learn more about NewsPicks users and go beyond the day-to-day commentary on the app. Today we are featuring comedian and writer John Poveromo.
Stand-up comic and Jersey Shore Native John Poveromo is a veteran of the comedy game that performs nationally, appears regularly on syndicated radio shows, has already released his first book and is routinely in talks to take his talents to television. This month he’s coming home to Jersey to kick-off a new comedy show at Jenks in Point Pleasant Beach.
Why We’re Laughing: Superb writing combined with the kind of relaxed presence behind the microphone that puts an audience at ease, Poveromo delivers on a brand of funny that builds within the set, transforming external laughter into internal contemplation that lasts well after you leave the club.
Comedians Jimmy Failla and John Poveromo join Tom Shillue to discuss the most important stories of the day including ... a kindergarten is using cute nursery rhymes to teach kids about school shootings. PLUS: Everyone is wondering if the NHL champs Washington Capitals will visit Trump at the White House... or if we should just end that tradition.
Comedians Jimmy Failla and John Poveromo debate if the Stanley Cup champions Washington Capitals should visit Trump at the White House. Tom wonders if they should end the tradition all together! Failla says teams should "shut up and go!".
However, some are saying canceling your Netflix account due to a deal with the Obamas is pure immaturity and the “true definition of a snowflake.” Amen.
The 33-year-old stand-up comedian, freelance writer and author was born in Brooklyn, New York, but raised in Toms River, New Jersey. His style is self-deprecating and in his routines he touches on relationships, dating and New Jersey stereotypes. A healthy dose of improvisation makes its way into his performances as well.
In continuation of our undying love for all things comedy, which is desperately needed in this day and age, we have a wonderful interview today with one of today’s finest comedians. John Poveromo is not only as good as they come today, he is better. He has been in the game for quite some time, and he definitely knows what the hell he is talking about. John is also a brilliant cartoonist and has a new book coming soon entitled Drawings From A Nobody that is both poignant and hilarious. It is a politically charged piece of art that is as on point as his stand up act continues to be.
The Jimmy Star Show with Ron Russell is pleased to showcase the expertise and talent of John Poveromo and all anticipate a fun and informative time talking with him about his career and the entertainment industries at large. Join King of Cool Jimmy Star, and Cool Man about Town Ron Russell as they have a playful and sometimes wild time with the talented featured guest!
Not many people can say they’ve reminisced with Jimmy Fallon about a memory from 10 years ago. But for John Poveromo, this is just one of many unforgettable highlights in the life of a rising comedian.
But Poveromo is far from a one-trick pony. He manages an active, relevant Twitter account, is a meme enthusiast, and has written a collection of comics called “Drawings From A Nobody,” which is being backed by Jonas PR, a leading publicist of the comedy world ...
New Jersey-based comedian John Poveromo visited UK’s Cats Den Underground Thursday for a night of laughs as part of the venue’s long-running Comedy Caravan series.
On Thursday, President Trump tweeted that the removal of "beautiful" Confederate statues and monuments across America was ripping apart "the history and culture of our great country" and that their "beauty ... will be greatly missed and never able to be comparably replaced!"
A comic, a cartoonist, a writer, a meme-maker, and now an official knight via Dairy Queen’s twitter, Sir John Poveromo has been working professionally for eleven years, and working unprofessionally his whole life.
Born in Brooklyn but raised in New Jersey, Poveromo has a personal connection to Sandy: his parents lost their Toms River home in the storm.
John Poveromo is a Toms River comedian who lost the home he grew up in to Sandy. As we approach the fifth anniversary of the super storm, there are still many people who continue to deal with the effects and need your help.
Comedian John Poveromo may be living in Los Angeles now, but he’ll always be a Jersey guy.
We had him in studio last week to talk about Jersey and what he misses when he leaves. Povoromo loves and misses Wawa (not unlike a certain Olympian) and gave some classic Jersey moments of when his Garden State attitude got the best of him.
A man climbed Trump Tower, belonging to GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump, Wednesday afternoon in New York City.

Toms River native John Poveromo has pretty nice hair. So with barely hidden jealousy I asked him how his follicles got that way.
"The gray comes from texting and driving," admitted the comic, who plays tonight in Ocean Township, "The height has something to do with gravity...I think. I dunno, I'm a comedian not a scientist!" Indeed, Mr P is one funny comedian; just don't get him started about the student debt crisis...
The host for the evening, young and rising comedian John Poveromo, broke the ice by performing stand-up for the attendees and contestants. Poveromo has been featured in The New York Times, Comcast On-Demand stand-up, Sirius satellite radio and a part of Punchline Magazine’s 2008 Comedian’s New Year’s Resolutions.

It’s that time of year again, faithful PunchlineMagazine.com readers. It’s time to re-evaluate our lives and make some changes. Or at least type them out in resolution form, show the world and then do nothing to make those promises a reality.
This year, as a nod to all comedians — not just the ones selling out comedy clubs and theaters, but the ones doing it for gas money to get to the next gig — we coerced stand-up comics from across the nation to give us their New Year’s resolutions. So without further exposition, we present to you PunchlineMagazine.com’s Comedian Resolutions ’08.
